My Friend Amy had me do a design for her for a T-Shirt. Now... I don't know if this is a spoiler or not, since I've not read the book, so if you haven't read yet, you may not want to click, just in case.

We are currently looking for male singers for our productions Varekai and Quidam.

The shows:

Varekai
Parachuted into the shadows of a magical forest, a kaleidoscopic world populated by fantastical creatures, a young man sets off on an adventure both absurd and extraordinary. On this day, at the edge of time, in this place of all possibilities, begins an inspired incantation to a life rediscovered.

Quidam
Quidam highlights our frailties and our anguish in the face of the new millennium that lies before us. It also underlines differences, conveying positive feelings and resentment and confronting our dreams with our nightmares. Quidam is a more scripted show; it integrates performance and theatricality to a greater degree than previous productions, and draws on the emotional relationships between the performers in the troupe.

Requirements:

* Role: Principal singer (in duo with a female singer);
* Sex: male;
* Age: N/A;
* Register: from A1 (2 octaves below middle C) to A sharp (above middle C) in full voice; and to D4 (2 octaves above middle C) in head voice;
* Well-trained voice—must be able to handle a rhythm of at least 10 shows per week;
* Ability to sing with beat music and comfortable with ethnic appoggiaturas;
* Improvisational skills;
* Solid and diversified stage experience;
* Willing and able to work with an amplification system (in-ear);
* Ability to work in a team and to sing in a changing context and environment.

Conditions:

* Location: North American, Asia-Pacific and International Tour;
* Contract length is a minimum of two years, with good conditions and benefits.

If you've looked at the Moron Life site recently, you'll realize that my OnStar Parody isn't posted there yet, just hosted. That's because it wasn't approved by our fearless leader, and I wanted his feedback on it anyway.

Well, the feedback came in, and I agree with him. All of the voices sound too much like me. That's mostly because they ARE all me. So what I'd like to do is replace the operator's voice with the voice of ONE OF YOU!!!

That's right. All you need to do is record the text behind the cut below in any computerized format and send it to me at clay (at) moronlife (dot) com. Don't worry about the quality, because I'm going to be distorting it to sound like phone voice anyway, so even windows Media Recorder and a cheapass microphone will work. Or, even easier, you can call my Gizmo account and leave me a voice mail with it. My Gizmo number is Clay27344733 (or you can call me from other VOIP networks, too. SIP#: 7four7-603-3one8one).

Sides follow )

So have fun, I'll review them all and probably have Lon help me pick the winner.

This has nothing to do with Christopher Walken.

An OnStar Commercial, Da Zhuang style. (~700kb mov file)

me
Mad Genius or Crazy Beyatch-- maybe both

Edit: Da Zhuang style means with audio. May not be appropriate for work if you're not using headphones.

In comments to this post, please note anything crazy, weird, bizarre, scary or just fucked up about Christopher Walken.

Once again, I find myself in the position of needing to apologize for the lack of substance in El Blogo (El Bloga?) recently. I'm still playing catchup with everything that I didn't do while I was away on vacation, but never fear, there is more fun on the way.

Have a great Friday everyone.

Anyone know of any good on-line references for working with mySQL using the command line interface? I've never done the whole "shell" access thing before, and it's sort of intimidating.

Some things I learned today (in no particular order)

My friends need to be more insistent about music.
I finally listened to the Scissor Sisters album today. I've only gone through it once, but I already feel sexier.

I'm a damn fine waiter.
Only six tables tonight, and I walked out with $154.01 in tips. It seems I average between 18% and 24% tips. Not too shabby if I do say so myself.

I underestimate my own skill as a photographer.
Apparently my pictures are better than I give myself credit for. Thanks to everyone for the feedback recently, by the way.

I like California and what I'm doing here enough to stay here and keep doing it.
So while I was in Boston my old company called and asked to meet me about the possibility of doing some contract work for them. Essentially, they wanted me to take care of the project that I'd been working on before I left that kept getting put off and put off and put off. So much so that I finally got bored and left. I met with them once, and had another phone conversation about it. And in the middle of writing up a proposal for them on what I would charge them to do it, I realized that I didn't *NEED* the job, so there was no reason for me to be playing the "try to guess the most that they'll pay you" game. And I told them as much. If they want me to put a huge chunk of my creative life on hold for them, then they need to convince me that I want to do it by laying out what they expect and how much they're willing to pay for it.

I have awesome parents and housemates.
I knew this one already, but I needed to reemphasize it. If it weren't for merlinofchaosTurk and esmerelCarla and my folks, I wouldn't have the ability to consider not jumping on the job. For that bit of freedom, I owe them the world.

Here endeth the lesson.
